Weak Links, Rounded Shoulders

“Posture”
and “Flexibility” always have been, and probably always will be real buzzwords in the world of golf conditioning.  It seems like every golfer has some sort of “issue” with their posture or flexibility.  So I figured I might as well address it in my weak links series

One of the most blatant forms of poor posture is the occurrence of forward rounded shoulders.  This is sometimes accompanied by a forward jutting chin which only leads to an exacerbated problem.  You may have seen someone with this, or you might even have this type of problem.  See photo below for an example.

In any instance, this type of posture is a double edge sword: 
1) it is crap posture in general and will surely lead to some orthopedic problems in the future
2) as a golfer, it severely inhibits your flexibility in your upper body; leading to you being unable to get in proper position throughout the entire plane of your swing. 

This is where a little golf conditioning will come in handy. In the video below I am going to share a series of drills with you that will follow a progression from strictly working on flexibility and progressing to an intermediate and advanced drill that will work on flexibility and total body strength. 

If you take a look in the mirror and find that you may have a little issue with some forward shoulder rounding, give these drills a try.  The can be used on a daily basis, and I would recommend starting at:

1-3 sets per day at 10-15 reps per set depending on your starting fitness level.  Give it a few weeks and I have no doubt that your posture will have improved and there is a good chance that your golf game will too.
